Collessie Church and Historic Hamlet

Highlight • Historical Site

A very ancient hamlet (the church was rededicated in 1243!) well worth a mooch around to explore and take in the atmosphere. Some new build and a Victorian railway line (now the main line to Perth) don't really take away from this, especially with several thatched cottages, unusual for Fife.

Trafalgar Inn and Crossroads Collessie

Highlight • Monument

Site of a coaching inn that opened in 1803 and was renamed after the Battle of Trafalgar that occurred 1805, when it was allegedly staffed by injured veterans from that battle. It functioned until 1926 and the road junction at Collessie is still named after it.

Birnie and Gaddon Lochs Nature Reserve

Highlight • Viewpoint

A local nature reserve in the Howe of Fife to the south of the A91 road and the village of Collessie. It was created in 1991 from the restored workings of Kinloch Quarry and donated to the people of Fife by the family of J.S. Baird & Sons in association with Pioneer Aggregates (UK) Ltd. Sand and gravel was extracted from the quarry during the 1980s.

The two lochs are joined by a network of paths and are home to a range of bird and plant species, together with rare mammals such as red squirrel, otter and bats
