Wolthausen Observation Tower

Highlight • Viewpoint

The small tower is always open and easy to find. He looks very well maintained and is also free to visit. You can't see that far from the top, but I think the view is beautiful. The route to the tower is very easy because the tower is not on a peak but in the city and it is flat.

Oldau Hydropower Plant and Weir

Highlight • Monument

The Aller is navigable to a length of 117 km from Celle to its mouth in the Weser. Since 1918, the Aller is channeled between the Leinemündung in the Aller and Celle. As part of the allerkanalization, the construction of four barrages was required.
The Aller is assigned to the waterway class 2. For goods shipping, the Aller is hardly important today. Increasingly, passenger and sports shipping is developing.
By a contract in 1908, the state took over the expansion of the four barrages Oldau, Bannetze, Marklendorf and Hademstorf. while the city of Celle leased the exploitation of the water resources at the barrages Oldau and Marklendorf. The canalization was carried out in the years 1908-1919. The aim was to create a fairway depth of 1.50 m at M.W.

The three upper dams Oldau, Bannetze and Marklendorf cut larger and larger bends by punctures. The lowest barrage, Hademstorf, is laid out in the estuary triangle of the leash in the Aller. so that the shipping can use a piece of the leash and avoid the here very unfavorable Aller. The weir is here in contrast to the two upper plants, where it is in the river, as in Marklendorf, in the puncture. The lengths of the barrages are 14, 11, 11 and 12km.
The locks themselves are all built as tow traps with 165 m usable length, 10 m gate width and 2.5m drumming depth.
