North America Farm Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

In the days when the Empire was being opened up, it was the custom to name far-flung farmsteads after the places which were, in those days, on the edge of the known world. That is how North America got its name; other farms were called Quebec and Botany Bay. It is a sad ruin now, like Brookhouse Farm it was abandoned when the reservoir was built. You might notice the pockmarks in some of the stones of the broken-down walls. These caused when the ruined farm was used for target practice by troops in training

North America Farm Ruins

Highlight • Historical Site

Named as a result of the trend for naming farms after faraway places, this farm was abandoned after the reservoir was built and was later used for target practice by tanks in WW2.

Langsett Reservoir

Highlight • Lake

Langsett Reservoir is a lovely place to walk around and is moderate loop with great views across the reservoir. You can also use this as a base to explore longer walks in the Peak District. There is a free car park with toilets available but this does get quite busy. There is also a nice cafe and pub close to the parking area.
