Callanish Stones

Highlight • Historical Site

The probably 5000 year old place of worship consists of 50 stones, which are placed in a cross around a grave. Their magic unfolds especially in sunshine or at sunrise and sunset.

Visitor centre is under renovation, you have to park alongside the road. Part between stones II and III is really boggy.
This tour includes the most famous of the Calanais Standing Stones Circles (or Callanish in its anglicised form): I, II and III. There are at least 11 stone circles and 9 individual standing stones within a few kilometres, see details on calanais.org/learn/#sites.

This is the second most important site of this type after Stonhenge.
