Red Bridge Over Goldhammer Bach

Highlight • Bridge

A typical steel truss bridge can be seen here. Especially on hot days, the route, which lies on a steep gravel embankment, is very pleasant due to the dense tree population.

Zollverein Coking Plant

Like the neighboring Zollverein colliery, the former coking plant has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2001. Here you can learn about industrial history, visit the factory swimming pool …

Niederfeld Lake

Highlight (Segment) • Lake

A great route with a great surface. Leads directly from the south into the city center of Essen. Lots of water along the way - Niederfeldsee, Kruppseee - and the Cafe Radmosphäre. My top route in Essen.

June 28, 2025,Potttour von Bochum über Gelsenkirchen, Zeche Zollverein, Essen und an der Ruhr zurück 😎🚴
A wonderful tour in the Ruhr area, mostly along former railway lines and surrounded by beautiful countryside! The Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex is also impressive!

Lovely Mother's Day tour in wonderful weather, apart from the part about the construction sites in Essen. At the end we were rewarded with an ice cream from our favourite ice cream parlour, Claudio.

At home I was laughed at because I only did 50 km.🤣🤣🤣🤣😱😱😱

As usual, a packed bike path that day. I also had to stop about 15 times because the batteries of my campaign cam, which I had not used for a long time, had failed. But I had 10 with me to be on the safe side. But I caught a real downpour for 20 minutes at the Zollverein. After that, …

Today we showed Cologne cyclists a part of the Ruhr area - mainly on railway lines.
The usual suspects were the RS1, Zollvereinweg, Kray-Wanner-Bahn and the ore railway line to the Jahrhunderthalle in Bochum. Back over the Sprungorumtrasse in the direction of Bochum-Dahlhausen and over the Grugatrasse again on the RS1.
Conclusion: The people of Cologne were absolutely thrilled and …

Wow! Apart from Kettwig, I always thought food was rather ugly. Totally wrong! Areas like Rüttenscheid are very green and look almost futuristic with a Dutch style to me. It was also my first time on the Ruhrschnellweg 1. What a nice thing! I hope it will be finished soon, so that the Ruhr area also has a great cross-bike …

tried it out, via the Zangenstr green corridor. to drive to the Zollverein. Then climbed the Rheinelbe dump on the leeward side and let the wind roar around your nose at the summit.
The passage from H. Rheinelbe past the Lohrheide stadium has been closed since November 23rd.
