Sterkrade Colliery — Shaft 1 Headframe

Highlight • Monument

The listed headframe above Shaft 1 and the associated shaft hall today serve as a reminder of the former Sterkrade mine. The foundation took over the industrial monument in 1997.

HOAG Rail Trail

Highlight • Cycleway

That's what I call sensible recultivation: An old railway line from the colliery traffic of the time was converted into a very recommendable cycle path. There are also plenty of opportunities to take a break with a beautiful panorama.

Here the HOAG route crosses the A59, a bridge with yellow cones.

Beautiful and interesting footpath and cycle path.
On the right bank of the Rhine is the huge TKS area and on the left bank is the Lower Rhine, agriculturally dominated recreation area.

I hopped on my bike in perfect weather, and after just a few minutes, my light jacket was folded and on the luggage rack. A beautiful tour through the north of Duisburg.

Unfortunately, I wasn't alone on some stretches and dented my bell.

Wonderful when the sun is shining. Almost everything goes through small forests, and you can relax and put your feet in the lakes during breaks.

I wanted to repeat a route I drove last year. So in Oberhausen on the HOAG route and lo and behold it was closed. So the detour that was set up resulted in us being in front of the next construction site. So I looked for another route and ended up back on the route, only to be faced with …
