Marx Tower (old post office tower)

Highlight • Monument

Opposite the train station stands a magnificent old post tower. The tower was built in 1885 with red sandstone in the late classicist style and has corner turrets and battlements. It was built by a well-known Lambrecht cloth manufacturer. The tower served as a water tower. The post office later acquired the tower, hence its name. The tower now belongs to the town of Lambrecht.

Billy Goat Fountain

Highlight • Monument

I don't think the place on the thoroughfare is very nice. If you want to take a break, you should probably go a few meters down the Schulstraße. The place there is much nicer/quieter and there is also a bakery next door.

Wasserquellenbrunnen Frankeneck

Highlight • Natural Monument

Entry into the Elmstein Valley. From here you have several options to continue: Kalmit, Schwarzsohl, Iggelbacher Stich, Waldleinigen, Hornesselwiese or directly to the Johanniskreuz.

Elmstein–Iggelbach Ascent

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

Nice descent/ascent from/to Elmstein-Iggelbach on very good asphalt. The descent/ascent has a moderate gradient, only in the town of Iggelbach does it get a little steeper for a short time. 😉

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

If I'm not mistaken, the slope is significantly less than what Komoot shows.

Old Tower, Appenthal

Highlight • Monument

This tower is missing a spire because it used to be a church tower. Today, a support association looks after this medieval cultural monument. - But these are NOT the remains of a pilgrimage church, as the (outdated!) information board on site incorrectly states!

"The 'Old Tower' in Appenthal belonged to a respectable sandstone church built at the end of the 15th century. After the church had already fallen into disrepair in the 16th century, the red sandstones were reused for house construction."
The church was donated by Count Palatine Philip. "Although he resided in Heidelberg, he often came to the Elmstein-Appenthal forests belonging to his lands to hunt. The church was dedicated to the 'Most Holy Virgin Mary,' whose veneration was at its peak at the end of the 15th century.
The church is also referred to in the documents as a 'Chapelle,' which in this case had nothing to do with its size, but rather with its ecclesiastical status. It did not belong to a parish, but rather to a chaplaincy (under the 'mater' Elmstein). The church in Appenthal was also NOT a 'pilgrimage church'! Reports using the term 'pilgrimage' were mistakenly interpreted as such. It should only be understood in the sense of 'going to church.'
