Saint-Gatien Cathedral, Tours

Highlight • Monument

The Cathedral of Saint-Gatien in Tours is one of the most remarkable buildings in the city. It was erected between 1170 and 1547 and classified as a historical monument in 1862.

Thanks to its very slow construction, the cathedral displays a very complete set of religious architecture: there are elements of the Romanesque style, others of the radiant and flamboyant Gothic style, and still others of the Renaissance style.

It is an essential stopover for pilgrims who take the paths of via Turonensis to get to Santiago de Compostela.

Tours Castle

Highlight • Castle

Medieval castle of the 11th century, the castle of Tours is one of the forgotten buildings of the great constructions which border the Loire. Destroyed during the 18th century, it was in fact only partially rebuilt to serve as barracks.

Today, the castle houses multiple exhibitions, open throughout the year. Lovers of painting, sculpture, engraving, drawing, photography or video, do not hesitate to schedule a visit!

Great place to bivouac near Tours. Quite a bit of traffic because it's along a cycle path but there is a fountain not far from a picnic table.
The Loire is right next door, so you can enjoy a magnificent setting.

The boats are replicas of historic wine barges. They have a flat bottom, suitable for shallow waters like the Loire. This flat bottom allows them to dock and unload close to the shore. Today, they are often used as excursion boats for river cruises.

Rochecorbon riverside tavern

Highlight • Restaurant

The Rochecorbon tavern is located facing the Loire, in a most natural setting. From its terraces, the panoramic view of the wild Loire is breathtaking.

Considered one of the largest taverns in France, its restaurants, bars and dance halls welcome the public every day from the beginning of May to the end of September. In a friendly, family atmosphere, don’t hesitate to stop there for a cold drink or a hearty meal.

Greenway of the Pays de Vouvray

Highlight • Cycleway

Very pleasant and little frequented by pedestrians ... except on Sundays. Be careful in winter, the access bridge over the Brenne from Vernou is sometimes flooded.

Saint-Symphorien Suspension Bridge

Highlight (Segment) • River

The Saint-Symphorien footbridge (or Pont de fil) is a pedestrian and cycle suspension bridge crossing the Loire in Tours.
