St. Nicolai Church Gebhardshagen

Highlight • Religious Site

The Protestant-Lutheran St. Nicolai Church is the oldest church in Gebhardshagen, a district of Salzgitter. Duchess Anna Sophia of Brandenburg (1598-1659), the wife of Duke Friedrich Ulrich of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel (1591-1634), had her built.

Gebhardshagen Moated Castle

Highlight • Castle

The moated castle in Gebhardshagen, built around the year 1000, is one of the oldest in the state of Braunschweig. The original appearance of the castle, which had to be rebuilt several times due to military destruction in 1406 and during the Thirty Years War, can no longer be reconstructed today. It was probably surrounded by moats that were supplied by the Mühlbach flowing past. The former Amtsteich next to the castle still exists today.

The castle complex has been owned by the city of Salzgitter since 1986 and is looked after by the "Förderverein Wasserburg Gebhardshagen" - its buildings and the castle courtyard are regularly used for events and celebrations.
