Husum Maritime Museum

Highlight • Monument

The Husum town hall stands on a listed slipway of the old Husum shipyard. It is an impressive building, planned by the architects Patschan, Werner and Winking. The construction project at the inland port began in 1987, and the inauguration with the handover of keys and the city administration moving in took place on September 21, 1989. In October 1989, the town hall was awarded the BDA Prize (Association of German Architects) as an exemplary building.

Husum Inner Harbour

Highlight • Structure

The tidal range, ie the difference between low tide and high tide, is more than three meters in the inland port. It is already an impressive spectacle of nature. Just sit in the café for a while and watch the water come. Fantastic!

Nordfriesland Maritime Museum

Highlight • Monument

In the museum rooms, a diverse and interesting maritime collection is presented in historical contexts.
Also worth seeing is the open-air area at the Husum inland port and at the Zingel lock with old ship models, a wheelhouse, buoys and beacons, a historical collection of anchors and, last but not least, the historical cross mark lower light from Hörnum, built in 1904.

Red Haubarg

Highlight • Historical Site

The name "Roter Haubarg" (Red Haubarg) is puzzling at first glance. The color red is nowhere to be found. White-plastered and topped with a massive thatched roof, the farmhouse stands visible from afar across the marsh. The first Roter Haubarg had a red tile roof. After a fire in 1759, the building was rebuilt and thatched. The color changed, but the name remained.

Built in 1684, the farmhouse is an impressive example of the lifestyle of the marshland farmers from the region and a testament to their former wealth. Stables, a central hall, living rooms, and bedrooms were arranged around the square base of the house. Hay was piled high beneath its roof, which is over 20 meters high.

Today, the Roter Haubarg is a restaurant and café, as well as part of the Eiderstedt Local History Museum. In the adjacent agricultural museum, visitors are given a comprehensive impression of the daily life of the inhabitants during the heyday of the large Haubarg farmhouses. And those who wish can even get married in the Haubarg.

The Red Haubarg is the only Haubarg open to the public.

It belongs to the Asmussen-Woldsen legacy.

In front of the Red Haubarg, as part of the "Blooming Eiderstedt" project, a 1,200-square-meter wildflower meadow was created, which, in addition to bumblebees, bees, and butterflies, also delights the human eye with its vibrant colors.
