In 1802 Schweinfurt came to Bavaria. After a short break between 1810 and 1814, when Schweinfurt was briefly part of the Grand Duchy of Würzburg, Schweinfurt came back to Bavaria (Kingdom of Bavaria). The memorial with the obelisk, which stands at the Maxbrücke in the direction of Sennfeld, was erected between 1902 and 1903 to commemorate Schweinfurt's 100-year membership in Bavaria.
