Iron Footbridge, Löhnberg

Highlight • Bridge

You cross this bridge if you want to hike or cycle along the Lahntalweg. Some people have attached a few locks to the bridge's grating here. If this idea is cultivated by several people, it will soon remind you of the Hohenzollern Bridge in Cologne. :)

Weilburg Ship Tunnel

Highlight • Structure

The Weilburg Shipping Tunnel is the oldest and longest navigable ship tunnel in Germany. 1] It passes under a length of 195 meters the Mühlberg, on which the city Weilburg is located, from north to south, thus avoiding a two-kilometer-long arch of the Lahn with two weirs. The tunnel was built between 1844 and 1847 and today forms, together with the parallel road and rail tunnels, the so-called Weilburg tunnel ensemble.

Weilburg Palace and Gardens

Highlight • Castle

The medieval castle turned into a baroque residence at the beginning of the 18th century, with numerous outbuildings, a church and a spacious garden. The park is open all year until dusk. The entrance to the castle costs 5 euros including tour. On Mondays, the gates remain closed.

Weilburg Stone Bridge

Highlight • Bridge

Until the suburb of bypasses on the occasion of the Hessentag 2005, this was the main traffic bridge in Weilburg to get over the Lahn. This bridge was built between 1764 and 1769.

View of Weilburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

Weilburg Castle is enthroned on a mountain spur high above Weilburg and the Lahn. From here you have a great view of the facility. If you like, you can take some time for a small tour of the castle and especially in the enchanting castle garden.

In front of the lock you have to cross the small bridge and continue on the dirt road. That shakes you through the next few minutes;)

September 4, 2022,Tour nach Weilburg
Since I started quite late today, it was only a short lap to Weilburg. Due to the already autumnal looking landscape, I used the still warm rays of sunshine for the tour. On the way back, just before the end of the season, we stopped at the Saltrissa farm.

Unfortunately, the part of the Lahn cycle path completed today cannot be described as very attractive. 😉
Unfortunately, you have the feeling that it is the B49 bike path and the little river. Lahn is often far away, at least on this section.
The following section tomorrow towards Limberg promises a lot more here 👍👍.

Showing Translation

In very mixed weather, we cycled from Mittelbiel to Löhnberg to the observation tower.
After enjoying the beautiful view there, we continued on to Hof Saltrissa, a beautiful farm café in Selters. After a long break, we headed back home in the rain.

Unfortunately, the cell phone battery did not last, the piece via Braunfels to Wetzlar is missing.
