The previous stage ended with the footpath from the Niederwald monument to Rüdesheim; so I treated myself to the beginning of the tour with the cable car today (dogs free).

Spectacular views of the Rhine should not be expected, as the heights of the Rheinsteig run out here and the area on the Rhine is urban.

Today's stage wasn't about discovering castles and palaces, but rather monasteries, chapels, and wayside crosses.

Saint Hildegard of Bingen, born in 1098, acquired the Augustinian monastery in 1165 and founded the Abbey of St. Hildegard here.

The stage took me mainly along meadow and forest paths and was more of a trail, as there was little sign of the Rhine …
