St. Theresia Parish Church, Rhens

Highlight • Religious Site

After the church had become too small, the new building was constructed from 1906 to 1908 as a three-nave hall church in the neo-Gothic style.

Brey Rhine View Rest Area

Highlight • Viewpoint

Very nice rest area with a great view of the Marksburg.

A huge steel stele with illuminated Rhine course, flat gabion walls and a small seating group complete the ensemble around the seating steps to the Rhine and blends harmoniously into the UNESCO-awarded landscape due to its modular design.

Viehtor (Historic Cattle Gate of Rhens)

Highlight • Historical Site

"The cattle gate, built between 1396-1418, is one of three preserved city gates, but has lost its outer arch and gate tower. The remains of a stair tower with a spiral staircase on the mountain side, which was designed as a saint's niche, are still reminiscent of the latter.
If you look closely you can see a few more steps. Until the construction of Bramleystrasse, as the photo above shows, all road traffic into the Mühlental ran through the cattle gate, as did the cattle up and down, from which the gate takes its name. A little-known historical fact is that rooms in the Viehtorturm were also used as prison and interrogation cells during the Rhens witch trials. Directly below the cattle gate and city wall is the guest house of the Verbandsgemeinde of Rhens, which is available to the public for social purposes as “Alt-Rhens”. The year of construction 1577 was engraved on a lintel, which is now walled in next to the main entrance."
