Church of Leende

Highlight • Religious Site

This is a late Gothic church of the Maasland type. Little is known about the origin and construction of the church. An earlier wall text 'finished 1474' probably indicates the age of the church. The stone tower is 38.5 m high, the spire 26.8 metres.

The church was built in the holy line: the chancel faces east. In 1699 the spire burned down due to a lightning strike.
The church was then in the hands of the Protestants. It was not until 1714 that a new spire was placed on the church tower. In 1798 the Catholics got their church back.
