I think the approach to Ales is fairly good. The first few kilometers are on country roads, then the D6, a fairly busy road. In Ales, there are several roundabouts, so you have to keep track of everything. I really enjoyed the climb up the Croix de Vents. From then on, it was a worthwhile bike ride.
