The first Yser Tower was inaugurated in 1930 as a memorial for the Flemish soldiers who lost their lives in the front region. During the Second World War the site became a backdrop for collaboration. The Yser Tower was detonated during an attack in 1946. A new tower was built from the ruins in 1965. The tower has housed a museum for several years now.

The King Albert I Monument in Nieuwpoort was erected in 1938 in honour of King Albert I and the Belgian troops during the First World War. The monument, designed by Julien de Ridder, is circular with a diameter of 30 metres and consists of twenty columns made of brick from the IJzer valley. In the centre is an equestrian statue of King Albert I, made by sculptor Karel Aubroeck. On top of the ring beam is a walkway with orientation tables that offer a beautiful view over the IJzer plain.
