Meiningen–Oberriet Border Crossing

Highlight • Bridge

At this border crossing there is usually relatively little going on and you can cross the Rhine bridge to Switzerland, or vice versa, to Austria, from where easy-to-use paths continue along the Rhine or inland.

Wassertor Feldkirch

Highlight • Historical Site

The old Montforters used the narrow valley between the Rhine Valley and the Walgau to collect customs duties from traders and other travelers ... this was also the purpose of the gates ...

Schattenburg Castle

Highlight • Castle

The historic Schattenburg
The Schattenburg towers over the city and was the seat of the Counts of Montfort until the end of the 14th century. The keep, the highest part of the Schattenburg, is a viewing platform and allows a view over the whole of Feldkirch. It is particularly interesting for castle enthusiasts, as the complex has been preserved almost unchanged despite some extensions. Here you will also find the Schattenburg Museum and an inn, which invites you to linger and is famous for its giant schnitzel.

Black Lake

Highlight • Lake

The Black Lake was created in the late Middle Ages by a landslide from the Spiegelstein. The natural scar of the Verunite Schrofen, which is still visible today, bears witness to this major medieval event.

The surface of the water is roughly in the shape of a boomerang, with a small island on the south side of the lake with a single tree on it. There is a small footpath around the lake.

St. Arbogast Church

Highlight • Religious Site

Branch church of St. Arbogast, Götzis
The Roman Catholic branch church of St. Arbogast in the Vorderfeld plot in the hamlet of St. Arbogast in the market town of Götzis
The church was first mentioned in 1473 as the church “St. Arbogast in der Klaus”. The church was enlarged in 1710 and consecrated again in 1721. During the time of Josephinism, this church was also supposed to be closed in 1789 and then demolished. This was prevented by popular protests. In 1790 the use of the church was permitted again.
Between 1885 and 1896 a renovation was carried out for around 5,000 guilders, during which the tower was increased and a blue starry sky was painted in the choir, the side altars were renovated and a new floor was laid. In 1942 the smaller of the bells in the pilgrimage church was removed to be melted down. In 1984 the church was extensively renovated again.
