Schwandegg Castle

There was a brick house on the Schwandegg, which was called "Schloss Schwandegg" in the 18th century. Here the Menzinger veterinarian and naturopath Karl Josef Arnold (1792-1870) set up the "Schwandegg sanatorium" in 1839, the first in the canton of Zug. From 1812 he had completed an apprenticeship as a naturopath with Wasserdoktoren in Toggenburg and opened his own practice in Menzingen in 1815. With great success. He became a famous miracle doctor, the richest man in Menzingen. The Kurhaus flourished, was rebuilt several times and was probably given a beautiful park after 1887. Today the property belongs to the Generalate of the Society of St. Pius X.
