View of San Gimignano

Highlight • Viewpoint

For the most impressive overview of San Gimignano, it is worth taking a detour to the lookout point outside of town. 1 hour return walk from the northernmost point of the city (Porta San Matteo). This is the only way to see all 15 of the city's surviving towers together.

Historic Streets of San Gimignano

Highlight • Historical Site

Piazza del Duomo: the austere collegiate church, very old palazzi and seven towers form the majestic setting of this square near the Piazza della Cisterna.

Cistern Square

Highlight • Historical Site

San Gimignano is a must-see if you're in the area. A small historical town situated on a hilltop. Very nice streets with many stylish and high-quality shops and restaurants. Very clean and well worth seeing, especially because of its many high turrets and narrow streets. The town has a special charm and is bearable even at high temperatures, as there are many shady alleys and places…

San Gimignano, a hill town surrounded by 13th century walls.
In the historic center it is not recommended to continue on the bicycle because it is often very crowded. One of the stages of the Via Francigena passes right here, but a visit to the historic center should not be missed

Beautiful tower can be rented. You can also stay overnight in the tower, we didn't do that.

Beautiful circular route with various great photo opportunities. Unfortunately there is no bench to rest on.

The route starts around 900m and in between 250m along a busy road. But it is easy to walk on the hard shoulder. The rest of the route runs along gravel paths that serve as access routes to the wineries. There only now and then a car with almost walking pace.
Little shade, take drinks with you, no possibility to …

The tour was created by Komoot. We parked in the paid parking lot for €5.30 for about 3.5 hours. The hike takes us through the holiday homes on gravel roads. There are a few cars on the road, but the progress is good, and there are beautiful views of San Gimignano along the way. The last kilometer is on a …

I chose this tour suggestion... but you have to know that the circular route is mostly gravel road and you are constantly walking in clouds of dust from passing cars

Showing Translation

The tour goes along small, quiet asphalt roads and gravel paths. In two places you have to walk on the country road, i.e. without footpaths. If you can bear that, you can enjoy wonderful views.

San Gimignano- it was great! A small fine tour around the town in the typical Tuscan landscape.
Through the hinterland we went on gravel roads to San Gimignano, a wonderful (somewhat touristy) medieval town.
After seven world champion ice cream scoops 😃 at Sergio Dondoli and a glass of wine, we went back to the parking lot. On the way …

Today we hiked through the wonderful, typical Tuscan landscape around San Gimignano. After starting at the south gate, we quickly reached countless olive groves and vineyards. And again and again we had beautiful views of the medieval city. After crossing the north gate, the cappuccini and ice cream at the gelato world champion Dondoli tasted particularly good.
