Church of San Martino, Leffe

The Church of San Martino is a Catholic place of worship located in Leffe, in the province of Bergamo. It is part of the vicariate of Gandino and is dedicated to San Martino di Tours.

History and characteristics:
Ancient origins: Tradition has it that the church already existed in 774, during the Frankish occupation, although there are no certain documents to confirm this.

First official citation: It appears in the municipal statutes of Leffe of 1263.

Visit of San Carlo Borromeo: In 1575, the archbishop of Milan visited the church and ordered some changes to improve its decor.

Reconstruction: In 1616, the original building was demolished and rebuilt. The works were completed in 1636, after an interruption due to the plague of 1630.
