Ceniga Roman Bridge on the Sarca River

The Roman bridge of Ceniga, a fraction of the Municipality of Dro, is not a simple bridge, but a symbol for its inhabitants, an element that binds all generations. The origins of the bridge are uncertain, but it seems plausible that in ancient times it could have served to cross the river Sarca from the ancient roads coming from Arco and Laghel. The inscriptions walled up on the parapets recall its reconstruction in the Roman form, dated 1719. The bridge was later demolished by the Austrians during the Third War of Independence to prevent Garibaldi's advance in Val di Ledro. The authorities of the Austrian Empire, following the protests of the local inhabitants, had the bridge rebuilt in 1868.
