During the Second World War, the tower was used by the Germans as a watchtower. At the end of the war, the Germans tried unsuccessfully to blow up the tower. However, this necessitated a restoration that was completed in December 1947. In 2007 the tower was decommissioned after 110 years of use. The tower is still owned by the water company Brabant Water.
