Along the banks of the Rosanna

Highlight (Segment) • River

The small river with its ice-cold water is a constant and welcome companion on the cycle paths between St. Anton and Pettneu.

Nice little spot to fill up your bottles before the harder part of the climb, or after descending the Arlbergpass!

Wiesberg Castle stands on a rock on the Trisanna, Tobadill municipality, where the Paznaun flows into the Stanzertal valley. The castle was probably built by the Chur monastery in the 13th century and is now privately owned.

View of the Trisanna Bridge

Highlight • Viewpoint

Trisanna Bridge (popularly also Wiesberg(er) Bridge)
It was built at a height of 86 m with a span of 120 m in 1884 (construction began in 1883) as part of the construction of the Arlberg railway. Electric lighting was even installed for the bridge. This was a sensation at the time. It was completed within a year and was for a long time considered the largest structure of its kind in Austria and a monument to Austrian engineering. In 1924 the structure was reinforced and in 1964 the supporting structure was replaced by a new steel structure.
On June 26, 1933, bombs were found in front of the district headquarters in Kufstein. On July 4, 1933, a catastrophe of enormous proportions could only be averted through luck, because of two explosive bombs planted on the Trisanna Bridge on the Arlberg Railway, only the smaller one exploded. The main perpetrators are identified as the Innsbruck city councilor Hans Glück and the Nazi traveling speaker Gottfried Zötsch. As a result, home guards were deployed to guard the bridge on July 10th.

The weather has turned bad, rain, cold and strong headwinds, pulling the plug.
