The Castle Wildegg, located on a rocky spur of the Chestenberg, consists at the core of a well-preserved castle from the 12th century with keep and Palas. In the 17th century, the castle was enlarged and rebuilt into a baroque residential castle. Castle owner Julie von Effinger died in 1912 without descendants. She bequeathed the castle with all the equipment and the associated domain of the Swiss Confederation, which gave the whole estate to the Swiss National Museum for administration.
