This varied area has lots of heathland and beautiful fens, but also wooded areas where there is sometimes quite a climb. Fortunately, the forest steps make this a bit easier.

Lovely walking area. From the St. Walrick restaurant, routes have been set out to walk along the fens. This can also be done via walking junctions.

Walked on this sunny afternoon at the Overasseltse and Hatertse Vennen. The route was 6.5 km long and very clearly marked with yellow arrows! It was a very nice, varied walk with the heather in bloom

Beautiful winter walk in the Hatertsevennen, which was very special that the handkerchief tree (I came here a lot as a child) is still there, but the handkerchiefs have been taken out and a new tree has been planted and all kinds of cloths hang in it and around it signs with texts describing that it is for the victims, …

The hiking route "yellow" ("Vennenroute") followed by the beautiful Hatertse and Overasseltse Vennen. Fantastic weather, the jacket could stay off. It was just hot. Super! Route also fantastic, but that was not surprising to me. I often cross the area by bike, but then you can only see a very limited part, because you can only access the asphalt bicycle …

This morning I went for a lovely walk with my dear Joep 🐶 at the Overasseltse and Hatertse Vennen, just outside Nijmegen. The weather forecast threatened rain showers and wetness, but as often happens in the Netherlands: the opposite turned out to be true. Sun, whistling birds... we couldn't have started our day better!

A lovely walk in the Overasseltse and Hatertse Vennen

Together with Tommie and Bailey we set out to the beautiful Overasseltse and Hatertse Vennen. An area that was formed about 10,000 years ago by the rivers Maas and Waal. The wind blew the sand up into high dunes, and because the clay in the ground retained the water, the fens …

Today on a trip in Overasselt. Together with dog and other lovely people. The area appears to be bouncing back after extensive farming to likely help it return to a state where biodiversity can increase and water run its course. Herons and moorhens along the side and on the water and the heather was still in bloom. Furthermore, a shower …
