The Grottensteig in the Martinswand has been redesigned and has been safely accessible since the beginning of April 2015. Kranebitter Innau Nature Reserve

In 1988 the Kranebitter Innau was named a "nature reserve". Due to numerous disputes between nature users and nature conservationists, this high protection status was dissolved in 1993, whereupon the area was designated as a “protected part of the landscape with entry ban”. Since this entry ban, however, in turn caused many conflicts, the Kranbitter Innau was finally declared a "special protection area" in 2005, with a partial entry ban (from February 1st to July 1st) to protect the bird world.
Position:
The special protection area Kranebitter Innauen extends along the northern bank of the Inn from the Kranebitter Bach to the municipal boundary of Innsbruck. On the other side of the Inn is the protected part of the Völser Au landscape, which is why natural areas on both sides of the river have been preserved.
Landscaping:
A changed water balance due to the deepening of the Inn, as well as the decline in periodic floods, have already led to a shift in the direction of Hartholzau with elms, pines, spruces and tall willows. As in the Völser Au, there is also a pronounced settlement of non-native plants (= neophytes) here. Balsam and buddleia are therefore regularly removed so that the original flora remains.
Flora and fauna:
In the last 20 years at least 91 bird species have been recorded in the area of the Völser / Kranebitter Innauen. 18 of these species are on the Austrian Red List, 29 on the Tyrolean Red List of Endangered Birds. In addition, the Innauen are an important resting place and feeding area for many small birds migrating and breeding birds in the area, which use gravel banks, banks, floodplains and the air space above the floodplain area in great density. The area of the Völser / Kranebitter Innauen is therefore to be classified as above-average species-rich both in the regional as well as in the supra-regional context.
Particularly noteworthy are the breeding occurrences of endangered species such as the small woodpecker, reversible neck and yellow mockers, as well as the high population density of blackcap, chiffchaff, robin, wren and five titmouse. In the Kranebitter Innauen there are good populations of bird species from the floodplains, mixed deciduous forests and coniferous forests.
