Parkland Walk (South) Local Nature Reserve

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

Parkland Walk is a nature reserve that follows the path of an abandoned railway line that used to run between Finsbury Park and Alexandra Palace. The route is shared with pedestrians, and it can get quite busy, so it's a better option for enjoying the scenery than for fitness. The ground is quite rough in places, so probably not ideal for dedicated road bikes.

Viaduct Pond

Highlight • Historical Site

Viaduct Pond on the Hampstead Chain has one of the most iconic views from its banks, its namesake- the Viaduct. This bridge was built between 1844 and 1847 by Sir Thomas Maryon Wilson, the then owner of part of the Heath. He wanted to develop his land into grand villas. The bridge, made of bricks from the Heath’s own brickworks (located near Vale of Health) was to be part of the grand entrance to these villas. Fortunately, his plans were thwarted by legislation which protected the Heath as open space.

Parkland Walk

Highlight • Cycleway

Very nice short ride or walk almost totally hidden from busy north london.
The surface is gravel hard core which is a little tough on skinny tires.
Parking is less restrictive at the highgate end (week day 10-12pm restriction)
Finsbury park at one end offers a nice park with cafe and toilets.
