Ladybower Reservoir — Dam and Spillway

Highlight • Viewpoint

It’s actually a footpath. Don’t know why, if you take it steady on a bike there’s not normally any complaints

Ladybower Reservoir

Highlight • Structure

Go during the week or later in the evening to avoid the crowds at the weekends. Perfect for walking or cycling. There are several routes either side of the dam that take you up to Win Hill or Bamford Edge for a fantastic view of the reservoir down in the valley.

Ladybower Reservoir Overflow

Highlight • Structure

The path along the top of Ladybower Dam affords a wonderful view of the reservoir nestling in the Upper Derwent Valley. You also get a close look at the reservoir overflows (essentially giant plug holes), which draw photographers from far and wide.

Ladybower was constructed between 1935-43 after the villages of Derwent and Ashopton were flooded (residents were rehomed nearby). It was officially opened by King George VI on September 24, 1945.
