Fur & Feather

Highlight • Pub

Great place to start and finish a circular ride of the northern broads or further afield without having to fight your way out of the city on the main roads.

Can do varied loops from here round the broads, and even use the Horning Ferry to cut a ride short and be dropped back here.

The Maltsters, Ranworth

Highlight • River

Terrific mid-route stop - The Maltsters pub was open for us during lockdown, serving takeaway pizza and drinks (coffee and bottled drinks - we had cider!). The adjacent shop looked like it had normal village shop stuff, including ice cream. Car & bike parking at this spot, and can sit by the river or on the picnic benches. Also toilets, though I'm unsure if these were open for lockdown or not. The boardwalk looked interesting to walk around, however, this was closed on the day we went, for lockdown...

Nice cafe with car park & public toilets. Also small marina with boat hire & a place to launch for paddle boarding & canoeing

Popular with boaters and nature enthusiasts alike, the village of Ranworth has plenty to offer. The floating Broads Wildlife Centre is just a short walk away along an enchanting boardwalk through reedbeds and woodland. St Helen's Church, 'the Cathedral of the Broads' offers a panoramic viewpoint from its 100-foot (30 m) tower. Meanwhile, there are the great food options of the Granary Stores and the Maltsters pub.

Fairhaven Woodland and Water Garden consists of 130 acres (52 ha) of ancient woodland with over 3.5 miles (5.6 km) of paths. It has a tearoom, gift shop, bird hides, children's nature trail and plant sales area.

In the spring you can see the UK's finest collection of Candelabra Primulas as well as bluebells, camellia's and wood anemones. In summer there are Hydrangeas, Philadelphus and many wild flowers. Migrant birds and other wildlife come to the garden in the autumn, and there are many varieties of fungi and toadstools. In the winter you might be able to spot kingfishers, deer and otters.
