Mynydd Llangorse Trig Point

Highlight • Natural Monument

Mynydd Llangorse is a western outlier of the Black Mountains. The trig point stands at 1,660 feet (506 m) and offers great views south. The highest point on the ridge is further north, where you climb slightly to the true summit at 1,690 feet (515 m).

If you aren't summiting as part of the Black Mountains round, you can run from which ever side is most convenient, there are loads of paths that bring you up to the north-south ridgeline trail.

Cwmdu Village

Highlight • Pub

Cwmdu is a lovely little village and a great base for adventures in the Brecon Beacons National Park, with the Central Beacons and the Black Mountains ranges both nearby. The village is home to both a pub, the Farmer's Arms, and the Mynydd Ddu Tea Rooms, as well as a community-run shop. The Beacons Way long-distance footpath passes through the village on its way from Crickhowell to Llangynidr.

St Michael and All Angels' Church, Cwmdu

Highlight • Historical Site

The oldest part of this church dates from the early 15th century, but due to its abysmal condition, the entire church, except for the tower, had to be completely demolished and rebuilt in 1830-1831.
The use of clear glass for the windows gives the inside a remarkably bright and airy impression.
The church contains an early 19th century English organ.
The cemetery contains the yew trees so often seen in England and Ireland, which in Celtic-biblical tradition are seen as a symbol of death and rebirth, forming the gateway to the world of spirits.
However, only a few graves remain in the cemetery; most were removed in the 1980s for safety reasons.
In the northern part of the cemetery you will still find the grave of Revd. Thomas Price, historian and important man of letters in his time. He was also an archaeologist, botanist, harpist and campaigner for the Welsh language and culture.

Because the church has very good acoustics, it is suitable for concerts, four of which are organized annually (May to September).
