Staden Carbonated Spring

Highlight • Natural Monument

The landscape park next to Ysenburg Castle was laid out from 1746 and redesigned around a hundred years later based on the English model. This is the first designated landscape monument in the state of Hesse. The carbonated Sauerbrunnen, which has been known since at least 1435, lies between mighty trees in the middle of the park. Easily digestible water gushes out of the mineral fountain. The taste takes getting used to, however.

Staden Historic Village and Waterways

Highlight • Historical Site

The absolute highlight was the small town of Staden, which is very impressive with two castles and an intact historic town center with moats. The place holds every comparison with the small romantic wine towns in the Main triangle. For the Spessart lover, the admissible comparison with the romantic castle of Mespelbrunn should be tried.

Old Nidda Weir Near Staden

Highlight • Monument

The weir system in the Nidda near Florstadt - Staden (river kilometer 52) was the only transverse structure on a flow section length of approx. 53 between the "Eschersheimer weir" in Frankfurt (river kilometer 12) and the "An der Krötenburg" weir system in Nidda (river kilometer 65) km. The fall height of over 1.50 m made the weir system an impossible obstacle for smaller aquatic animals and organisms. Larger fish were only able to overcome the existing stone bed of the Tosbeck basin and the then smaller difference in level in the fall height in order to change from the underwater of the weir to the upper water only in the event of large flood events.

Evangelical Church Leidhecken

Highlight • Religious Site

Churchyard with Protestant church, memorials, earth cellar, fountain and school from 1908

The churchyard extends on the north side of Stadener Strasse before its junction with Unterdorfstrasse and Bingenheimer Strasse. A quarry stone wall intercepts the higher ground along Stadener Straße.

The church itself is a small hall building with a rectangular ground plan, in the middle of the ridge an octagonal ridge turret with a high pointed helmet. The round-arched portal on the western side with an accompanying round bar and a small pointed-arched window with a cove on the eastern side are indications that the church was built during the transition from Romanesque to Gothic at the beginning of the 13th century. Several repairs were made during the 18th century. In the same century, galleries were installed for the first time, which were accessed via an external staircase on the north side.

In the churchyard memorials for the dead Leidhecken from the war of 1870/71 and the two world wars. Northwest of the church in 1908 a school hall was built in the churchyard behind the adjoining mayor's office (cf. Bingenheimer Straße 1), which has meanwhile been expanded. It leads to the entrance to the churchyard from Bingenheimer Straße, which is flanked by an earth cellar and a fountain with a cast-iron handle pump.
