Drumochter Summit — Highest Point on the National Cycle Network

Highlight • Viewpoint

Drumochter Summit is a mountain pass on NCN 7, the highest point on the National Cycle Network in Scotland standing at an elevation of approximately 1,509 feet (460 m) above sea level.

The summit can experience harsh winter conditions, with snow and icy roads being common, posing challenges for cyclists when passing through. Despite these challenges, the pass offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding Grampian and Monadhliath Mountains, an iconic Highland landscape.

Pass of Drumochter

Highlight • Viewpoint

Simply translating to 'high ridge', the pass of Drumochter separates the Southern and Northern Highlands, and the busy A9 road winds through this point too. Thankfully there's a separate cycle lane.

Super smooth downhill glide on excellent asphalt from the Pass of Drumochter to Dalwhinnie. Watch out for the many bridges and occasional sharpish zig-zag when zooming along.

A brilliant traffic-free stretch alongside the main road. Some big views along here, especially when the mountains are capped with snow!

Cycle Path to Tighnacairy

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This cycle path is in incredible condition and you zip along en route to Dalwhinnie around the Drumochter Pass. Mind boggling to be riding next to the busy A9

Old Drumochter Pass Road

Highlight (Segment) • Trail

This old road is now closed to motorized traffic, creating a quiet and wide cycle path on the south side of the Cairngorms. It's part of National Cycle Route 7, as well as the Cairngorms Loop. We cycled steadily downhill from west to east, allowing us to cycle smoothly towards Blair Athol.
