Combourg Castle

Highlight • Castle

Built between the twelfth and the fourteenth century, the Château de Combourg is a marvel. But what makes it really essential is the work of one of these illustrious occupants, the writer François René de Chateaubriand. Alone and frightened, the young Chateaubriand hears at night the ghost of a cat and a wooden leg pacing the corridors and the stairs. He will be inspired by his childhood experience for the writing of his book "Memories from beyond the grave". Even today some members of the castle staff feel a presence.
This haunted fortress can be visited. For information visit the following site: chateau-combourg.com

Ille-et-Rance Canal

Highlight • River

Construction of the Ille-et-Rance canal began in 1804, under Napoleon I and ended in 1832. The bulk of the work is concentrated on the 11 locks that connect two rivers. It connects the city of Rennes to that of Saint-Malo.

Church of the Holy Trinity

Highlight • Religious Site

The current church was founded in the 20th century by Arthur Regnault as an extension of an 11th century church. The neo-Romanesque style building is decorated with a Finistère bell tower and numerous gables and domes. The interior is composed of a magnificent high altar in the form of a kiosk. The white stone arcades and balconies blend with the finesse of the gilding of the decor.
