Hard road ride. Very good fitness required. Mostly well-paved surfaces and easy to ride. The starting point of the route is right next to a parking lot.

Coll de la Bassa (Atzeneta Side)

Leaving from Atzeneta in the direction of La Pelejaneta we find the Coll de la Bassa, a tack of only 2 km that culminates in the parched pond at the top that gives the port its name. The road is fairly firm but with little shoulder for cyclists. With a single powerful ramp at 9% maximum slope. A classic on the way back from the Vistabella stage.

Atzeneta del Maestrat

Highlight • Settlement

Municipality of the Alto Maestrazgo region, in the province of Castellón (Valencian Community). The place name comes from Arabic, and refers to the Berber tribe of the Zenatas.

The abundant archaeological remains of the place explain its long history, from Iberian ceramics to the Arab castle and medieval walls. The remains of the medieval walls and the castle of Adzaneta, or the Torre de la Presó, form part of its cultural heritage. The current town hall, formerly a hospital and Palace of the Commander of the Setena Culla during the 16th century, is also a historic building.

Port del Collao (Coll del Vidre)

Highlight • Mountain Pass

dandolotodo09.com/2018/12/puertos-el-collao-vidre-por-vistabella.html

In the classic cycling stage of going up to Vistabella (a stone's throw from the sky), you always have to return to Atzeneta tasting the Vidre from behind. Fortunately, the north face is much shorter than the main south slope that climbs from Atzeneta. On the north face we find a port of just over 3 km, with constant slopes and some hairpin bends. It tends to be harder than it really is because one always arrives cold after the Vistabella break. The nomenclature of the port was always the Vidre, it has recently been renamed Port del Collao, as the new plaques attest. Formerly there was a plaque with a graffiti that marked it as Coll de la Xaparra, because near the top there is a Farmhouse and a ravine with the same name.

Xodos / Chodos Pass (Atzeneta Side)

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

dandolotodo09.com/2021/09/puertos-xodos-chodos-por-atzeneta-apm.html

The port that goes up to Xodos/Chodos is one of the great colossi of the province of Castellón, with its more than 16 kilometers in length and almost 700 meters of accumulated ascent. We have waited a long time to visit it, but the ascent was worth it. Our journey begins in the town of Atzeneta del Maestrat. Very wide asphalt road in perfect condition, a paradise for bikers who trace the curves as if they were on a circuit. Shadows there is not one. It is the port of the 5 peaks, which gives an idea of what breaks we do have during its ascent. Between peaks 2 and 3 we have 5 very constant kilometers, where the slope rarely drops below 6%. Speaking of slopes, the maximum is around 10-11% and is reached at various points in the port. Arriving at the town of Xodos, the landscape opens up and we can contemplate one of the most beautiful pictures of the province, with the town perched on a cliff and the Gegant de Pedra el Penyagolosa to its left. To reach the highest point (1,103 meters above sea level) you have to cross the town and climb almost 1 kilometer more along a narrower and somewhat rougher road. The other side of the port runs along the aforementioned road and ends at the beginning of the Port of Vistabella, which is now called Coll del Vidre on the plates.

Atzeneta Pass via Les Useres

Highlight (Segment) • Mountain Pass

dandolotodo09.com/2018/07/puertos-atzeneta-por-les-useres-apm-22.html

But we left Les Useres and continued going down, what a way to go down, until we started another ascent, the Puerto de Adzaneta (or Atzeneta), there are no plains here, slide after slide. This area is 100% inland from Castellón, you can see the almost lunar landscape that characterizes the Alcalatén, it is very reminiscent of the ascent to the port of La Serratella. Herds of orcs can appear at any time, or so we fantasize, and we search in vain for vineyards of Castellón wines, could it be almond juice? The pass is not hard but it has its difficulties, until we reach the top and a dizzying descent takes us to Adzaneta.

Les Useres Climb (La Barona Side)

Highlight (Segment) • Climb

dandolotodo09.com/2019/09/puertos-les-useres-por-la-barona-apm-19.html

From La Barona to Les Useres, we find one of the longest and most foul straights of all those existing in the interior lands of our province. Almost 4 kilometers completely flat, crossing the Rambla de la Viuda and reeking of pigs, which is great. But, from a distance we can glimpse the municipality of Les Useres in an elevated position. And after passing an area of steep slopes, we undertake the final climb to the municipality, which is not exactly exempt from harsh percentages. Almost 2 kilometers until reaching the Costur-Atzeneta junction, and with about 900 finishes in which the slope does not drop below 8 percent at any time, reaching a punctual 12% right at the entrance of Les Useres. Arrived in this municipality of wines and pilgrims, we have two options: continue ascending gently towards Costur, with which we would be completing the Coll de Pau, or continue towards Atzeneta ascending its port on the southern slope.
