La Halle al'Chair

Highlight • Historical Site

Impressive Maasland building of Renaissance architecture, made of red bricks and cut stones, this gigantic rectangular building, three floors high plus attic, and which stands practically with its feet in the water, was in fact the old butcher's shop of the city.

Built in the last quarter of the 16th century by Nuremberg architects Bastien Sion and Conrad, to better control butchery operations and ensure effective health control, the al'chair hall was a major step forward at the time!

The bottom of the building, consisting of numerous arches, served as a butcher's shop. Commercial transactions were carried out on the first floor, while above it the administrative buildings and accounting of the establishment were located.
After a renovation of the entire building in 2022, it now houses the Namur Tourist Office in this strategic location at the foot of the Citadel.

Citadel of Namur

Highlight • Castle

The citadel of Namur is one of the largest citadels in Europe. Its vast network of underground passages earned it the nickname "The termite mound of Europe" by Napoleon I. A must-see place with a magnificent view of the Meuse Valley.

Here at the bastion of the citadel you have a great view of the north of the city. But also of the river Sambre flowing past.

Surrealist image in Namur: a flying turtle in the clouds. A sculpture by Jan Fabre weighing more than six tons, mounted on the citadel using a huge crane. Several other works by the artist are already installed in the Walloon capital as part of the "Facing Time" exhibition which brings together the worlds of the two Belgian artists Félicien Rops and Jan Fabre.

Confluence Space

Highlight • Structure

Since September 2021, Namur and its inhabitants have found their confluence, this emblematic and founding place of the city and its landscape.
It became an ambitious development project and this transformation marks the opening of a new public space destined to become a new beating heart of Namur: the Confluence.
There is currently a beautiful esplanade, walkway, bicycle and pedestrian tunnel, the NID building, an interactive wall dedicated to the Walloon Parliament, a timeline about the history of the Grognon, a street art work by the Brussels artists Yolanda and H,. ..
