Attre Castle

Highlight • Castle

Attre Castle (Château d'Attre) is a former castle, now a country house or château, in Attre in the municipality of Brugelette, province of Hainaut, Belgium.

The present château at Attre was built in the middle of the 18th century by Count François Philippe Franeau d’Hyon van Gomegnies, on the foundations of a medieval castle that had been in the hands of the family since 1520. The structural work was finished in 1752, and Count François died shortly after in 1755. His son François Ferdinand Franeau d’Hyon continued the work of his father and saw to it that the interior decorations were finished. It took more than 30 years before the interior was completely decorated.

The present building is in a Neo-Classical style and the interiors are French, mainly Louis Quinze.

Le Blanc Moulin

Highlight • Monument

Le Blanc Moulin is a stone mountain mill in the Belgian Pays des Collines (Ostiches (Ath)) in the province Hainaut. The mill was built in 1789. The flour mill remained in commercial use until the 1930s. After the Second World War, the refuge was removed and the mill began to decay. In the 1980s, a buyer, Lucien De Wachter, had plans to restore the exterior and furnish it as a home. However, the municipality of Aat bought the flour mill in 1989 and had it fully restored to working order. It is equipped with four timers. Le Blanc Moulin has been a protected monument since 1982.

St. Nicholas Church Enghien

Highlight • Religious Site

The Église Saint-Nicolas is the main church in Enghien, located in the city center near the market square. Originally built in the 14th and 15th centuries, the church has been restored and expanded several times over the centuries, combining Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque elements.
The interior is richly decorated with stained glass windows, a magnificent pulpit, and sculptures of saints, and also contains the tombs of local noble families.
Together, these elements make the Église Saint-Nicolas part of Enghien's religious and cultural heritage.
