Nice rest area and fork: on the right we continue up the waterfalls and on the left past the hut we go to the "small" schnapps fountain path

Idyllic path along the stream, which flows into the valley via several cascades... the rocks are mystically covered with moss... Numerous bridges lead over the individual steps and allow beautiful views of them... The stone steps can become very slippery when wet...

The water of the Brandbach stream plunges down here through a narrow gorge called Gaishölle. Over the centuries, the great drop in the water has washed away the huge rocks and erratic boulders lying on the valley floor. This created a wild and romantic forest gorge with many waterfalls.

In the past, it was not possible to walk through the valley normally. If you wanted to cross the gorge, you had to "geißen", meaning to move forward by climbing like a chamois (goat). "Hölle" (hell) is an old name for a narrow, wild area with many rocks and stones.

In 1880, a hiking trail was first created through the wild and romantic Gaishölle. The maintenance and care of this trail then led to the founding of a special "beautification association" in 1882, today's "Heimat- und Verkehrsvereines Sasbachwalden" (Local and Tourist Association Sasbachwalden).

Some interesting facts:

Trail length: approx. 800 m Steps: 225 Bridges: 13

Elevation difference: 154 m

Access Murbergstraße: 338 m above sea level

May 6, 2023,Zum Mittagessen auf die Hornisgrinde
Start in Sasbachwalden over the Gaißhöll waterfalls up to the Hornisgrinde. After a well-deserved lunch via Brigittenschloß, Fuchsschrofen, Katzenstein and Gaißhöll' back to Saschwawelle.
It was a strenuous tour for me because I wanted to be out and about for a day with a large backpack. Good training round for upcoming alpine hikes 🤫

Training purposes - and also the noble intention to cede a little of the Christmas bacon - led us to the Hornisgrinde today. Where else in this area can you climb so many meters in altitude over such a short distance.
