This full-day adventure is best suited for experienced mountain bikers with very good fitness and advanced riding skills looking for a serious challenge in Northeastern Connecticut.

This extensive mountain biking route takes you through vibrant, dense woodlands and rolling hills, offering picturesque views, particularly along the Natchaug River. You'll encounter a varied terrain, from flat sections to demanding areas with uneven ground, small hills, steep climbs, rocks, and roots. From the West Thompson Dam, you can enjoy panoramic vistas of the surrounding area, but be prepared for a technical rocky section specifically noted on the east side of West Thompson Lake. Expect to push your bike in some parts due to the technical sections and significant elevation changes, making this route ideal for riders who enjoy "fun old school mountain bike trails" and aren't afraid of a demanding, full-day commitment.

This loop is a full-day commitment, so plan accordingly. Campsites are available within Natchaug State Forest if you wish to extend your stay. The trails are multi-use, shared with hikers and equestrians, so always be mindful of others.
