Little Lauter Valley

Highlight • Gorge

"Little Lautern Valley" landscape conservation area
From Blaustein (Herrrlingen) train station, the hike through the little Lautern Valley begins in a northerly direction. First follow the Bergstrasse, then turn left into Oberherrlingerstrasse, then follow the Lautern Valley path on the right. Now you can hike through the valley to the source of the Lauter (approx. 6 km)
The Lauter rises in Lautern, in a karst spring, the Lautertopf. This has an average discharge of 600 liters per second and is one of the strongest springs in the Swabian Alb. Next to the spring is the old pumping station, which supplied several communities with drinking water as early as 1873.
In Lautern, you can then stop off at "Zum Lamm".

July 12, 2025,Durch das Kleine Lautertal
From Weidach, the trail descends steeply, sometimes on poorly marked paths, into the valley of the Kleine Lauter. In the valley, the trail continues along beautiful forest paths with views of rock caves to the source of the stream, which resembles the Blautopf but is smaller.

The adjacent inn offers a place to rest. Then, continue up the valley …

On the edge of the small town of Lautern, at the foot of a rock, lies the source of the Lauter. The clear water flows through the picturesque town and through a valley that the water has cut 200 meters deep into the Jura limestone over time.

Nice tour along the Lauter. Path to the sparrow's nest is very steep but through the forest

The cell phone GPS completely failed again, it took us about 4 hours with breaks for the very nice tour, it was probably around 13 km. But the path is somewhat understandable.
