The winemaking tradition in the House of Württemberg dates back to the 13th century. However, the actual founding of the "Hofkammerkellerei" (Court Chamber Winery) was not until 1677 by the ducal family.

From the mid-17th century to the end of the 19th century, the House of Württemberg acquired seven of the best vineyards in the country. Today, the vineyards extend from Stetten im Remstal to Maulbronn. Each of the six individual vineyards has its own specific terroir, which is reflected in the wines. Nowhere else in Württemberg can you taste so many different wines of distinguished origin from a single source.

The Herzog von Württemberg winery owns around 40 hectares of vineyards in the Württemberg wine-growing region. Around 23 hectares are planted with white varieties such as Riesling, Traminer, Silvaner, and Pinot Blanc, while around 17 hectares are cultivated with Trollinger, Lemberger, Pinot Noir, and Zweigelt.
