In the 18th century the fortress was abandoned and fell into ruins. In the 19th century, King Friedrich Wilhelm IV of Prussia had the ancestral seat of his family rebuilt in its present form, larger and more beautiful than ever before. The castle is still privately owned today, but visitors can visit the castle.
