Schoolkat Museum, Langwedel

Highlight • Historical Site

The thatched half-timbered house is now an event space.

"Experience school as it was in 1764.
The Schoolkat in Langwedel.
Immerse yourself in the rural history of Schleswig-Holstein in one of Langwedel's oldest buildings: the Schoolkat from 1764.
The museum association was founded in 1994. Since then, we have been committed to preserving the building and keeping alive the memory of earlier times.
In the Schoolkat and the coach house you will find a variety of exhibits from the former school operations as well as domestic and agricultural work.
The association organizes readings, musical performances and festivals in the cottage and on the meadow behind it.
And anyone who wants to can even get married in the Schoolkat."

Gut Manhagen

Highlight • Historical Site

A cobblestone path leads up to the manor house, which is inaccessible as it is private.

Therefore, Manhagen Estate, nestled in the Westensee Nature Park, offers a listed ensemble of buildings from the 18th to 20th centuries, its own Manhagen Lake, the flowing Mühlenau stream, and 2 hectares of manicured grounds open to authorized visitors.

Lake Brahm

Highlight • Lake

The Brahmsee is a typical lowland lake in central Schleswig-Holstein. It is located approximately 20 km southwest of the state capital, Kiel, in the Westensee Nature Park. It is approximately 1 km² in size and up to 10.4 m deep.

The municipality of Langwedel lies directly on the eastern shore of the lake, and the municipality of Eisendorf is located on the southwestern shore. There are swimming areas in both Eisendorf and Langwedel.

In its western part, the lake flows into the Wardersee.

It is a calcareous, unstratified lake with a large catchment area.

The lake is a glacial channel lake dating back to the Weichselian glaciation. It forms part of a so-called glacial channel with the Pohlsee to the north and the Borgdorfer See to the south.

The lake's name derives from a Low German field name, specifically from the broom (Low German: Bram), which was a characteristic plant of the heathland in earlier times.

The lake is part of the Westensee Nature Park, a landscape area designated primarily for recreational use in the Schleswig-Holstein Landscape Plan.

Therefore, the lake's shores are home to many holiday homes, campsites, and the youth recreation centers (Jugendheim/Zeltplatz Brahmsee and Waldheim am Brahmsee).

Until the 1990s, the lake was used for commercial fishing. Today, it is used solely as a fishing spot by recreational anglers. Brahmsee became famous through former German Chancellor Helmut Schmidt, who invited many guests from international politics and business to his weekend home there. The lake is privately owned. Navigation and fishing are only permitted to residents who have purchased a permit from the owner.
