Groß Schretstaken celebrated the 175th birthday of the Marienkapelle on 1 September 2012. Even before the Reformation there was a chapel in Groß Schretstaken, which was supervised by Breitenfelde. Due to financial difficulties, the villages of Klein and Groß Schretstaken were leased by the Lauenburg dukes to Lübeck and returned only in 1937 by the Grand Hamburg Act back to the district Duchy of Lauenburg. Because of this ownership, the church bills and books were led by Schretstaken in Lübeck, while the pastoral care from Breitenfelde took place. In 1967, the chapel parish Schretstaken was assigned to the parish Niendorf / Stecknitz the parish Breitenfelde.
Today's half-timbered building dates from 1837 and was built according to plans of the Lübeck architect Spetzler. The west wall and the ridge turret are from 1959-1962). The simple interior is classical.
