The long, rolling hills are not to be underestimated when riding an e-bike, but they are beautiful nonetheless.

An information board here commemorates these historical events.
The municipality of Lassahn is located on the eastern shore of Lake Schaalsee and includes the village of Lassahn as well as the districts of Techin, Stintenburg, Stintenburger Hütte, Bernstorff, and Hakendorf.
The municipality was first mentioned in the Ratzeburg Central Register in 1230 and has been continuously inhabited since then. The inn in Lassahn was first mentioned in 1735 and for a long time served as a village blacksmith, post office, and shop.

Its location, in the immediate vicinity of St. Abundus Church, first mentioned in 1200, is unusual, and the lake-view terrace is unique. During the Nazi era, the nearby town of Zarrentin, connected by railway line, and Lake Schaalsee, as a large body of water, were of strategic importance. Even today, the remains of the large tank farms from the Second World War can be seen near Bantin.

After the German defeat, Lassahn, which had traditionally always belonged to Ratzeburg, was assigned to the Russian occupation zone as part of a territorial swap, which involved a hasty relocation of residents to the west and new settlement. Lassahn continued to develop during the GDR years.

The restructuring of agriculture into large-scale operations and the border crossing directly within the municipality's territory along the lake shaped the townscape. The border guards' facilities and the border fortifications, which were increasingly fortified over the years, are still clearly visible in many places today.

The 24-square-kilometer Schaalsee Lake was virtually inaccessible to the residents of Lassahn during these years. The formerly impermeable border between East and West ran right through the Schaalsee. Only the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 changed this, transforming the lake into a recreational area with growing regional popularity, which once again significantly changed the image of Lassahn. Lassahn lies in the heart of the UNESCO Schaalee Biosphere Reserve.

I wanted to ride bike paths as much as possible. This cycle path to Lassahn is highly recommended in terms of landscape, although it is sometimes a bit adventurous. But if you love adventure, you should go this way.

Neuenkirchen Village Church

Highlight • Religious Site

The somewhat hidden fieldstone church, with its half-timbered nave and adjoining bell tower, is, like the entire village of Neuenkirchen, an insider tip
for many a vacationer and has become known to a wider audience through the film "Hands Off Mississippi."
Lake Neuenkirchen, the proximity to Lake Schaalsee, and the many small hills invite cycling and hiking. The church, with its adjoining cemetery, rests on a hill overlooking the lake and was first mentioned in sources in 1194. Upon entering the church, you will be greeted by a modern stained glass window entitled "The Good News,"
which invites interpretation. The oldest part of the church is the choir, with two simple vaults and window arches in the transition from Romanesque to Gothic style.
A special eye-catcher is the mostly closed altarpiece with figures from the pre-Reformation period. The church is used especially in the summer months
for summer church services as well as for major feast days throughout the year.
In 2023, work was carried out to renovate the interior of the nave.
The church is open to the public. You can obtain a key after registering
at the Döbbersen parish office or on-site at the inn or from Ms. Lenzner
across from the church.

Inn by the Lake

Highlight • Restaurant

A beautiful inn for a relaxing break with food and drink.

The following text from the website speaks for itself and requires no further explanation:

Dear Guests,
In 1990, we repurchased our parents' house, moved from Zarrentin to Neuenkirchen, and converted the house back into a guesthouse and inn between 1991 and 1992.

We have been welcoming guests under our roof for over 200 years.

On August 26, 2013, the house celebrated its 250th anniversary.

We consistently offer regional cuisine based on regional products.

Many of our dishes come from our own, organically managed vegetable and herb garden.

All dishes are freshly prepared; please be aware of the resulting waiting times in advance. The cake is, of course, also homemade.

From mid-October, we serve geese and ducks. Wild boar, venison, lamb, or rabbit roasts, please pre-order.
Curious? Please check out our gallery:
