Dragon Tree sculpture (former Peace Oak) in Klein Köris

Highlight • Monument

After the end of the Franco-Prussian War, the population of Klein Köris, as in other places, wanted to plant a pond of peace. Since they could not agree on the location, a group planted a tree at a place at the school and another group planted another tree in front of the spray house. The oak at the school has been declared the "official" peace oak. The second tree, however, grew stronger, until he had to be cut down in the 1990s for reasons of age. The sawmill artists Thomas Hartmann, Gilbert Biek, Lorenz Tacke, Edgar Krieg and Christian Wehner created the dragon tree from the wood, reminiscent of the 2003 Dragon Boat Race.

Beach at Klein Köriser See

Highlight • Beach

Small, cozy sandy beach on Klein Köriser See. The swimming area is on the grounds of a youth hostel with its own campsite.

There are no lifeguards and no toilets on the beach. Otherwise, just ask in a friendly manner at the youth hostel and you can use the toilet there.

View of Klein Köriser See

Highlight • Lake

The Klein Köriser See is a naturally formed body of water in the area of the municipality of Groß Köris in the Dahme-Spreewald district.

The lake belongs to the chain of lakes Teupitz, which extends from the Teupitz lake in the west to the Dahme in the east, and is located in the Dahme-Heideseen Nature Park. It extends in a north-easterly arc with a water surface of 158 hectares. The inflow comes from the Kleiner Moddersee over the Moddergraben from the west, the outflow over the Hölzernen See below the federal highway 179. The water lies northeast of the community center of Groß Köris.

The office of Schenkenländchen has designated a 15 km long circular hiking trail around the lake, which leads from Groß Köris via Neubrück and Klein Köris and is marked with a green dot on a white background. The capital portal berlin.de describes it as one of the “most beautiful hiking routes in Brandenburg”.

Christ Church Groß Köris

Highlight • Religious Site

Groß Köris has been part of the parish in Teupitz since 1600. The residents of the small village attended church services in the neighboring community for many centuries. However, with the construction of the railway in the second half of the 19th century, the population increased sharply. The number of residents rose from 249 people in 1840 to 851 in 1900. At this time, the residents, together with the believers from Klein Köris and Löpten, gathered for a sermon in a classroom at the Groß Köriser School. It became clear that the desire for their own sacred building was growing. The municipal administration around the head Grubert and his two aldermen Hainke and Wilke therefore contacted the provincial administration in 1901 and 1902 to push for the construction of a church for these three places. The parish's request for a building site in the historic village center - and thus in the royal forest - was rejected for financial reasons. The community then made its own property available south of the village center. As a result of industrialization, a new district was created along a connecting road to the train station. In 1907, building officer Georg Büttner was commissioned to create a sketch for the church building. The laying of the foundation stone took place on June 7, 1914 in the presence of the Berlin architect Johannes Palm. The church consecration was celebrated on June 14, 1916. On the occasion of the celebrations, Empress Auguste Viktoria presented the community with an altar Bible. The final bill amounted to 65,451.42 marks. A few months later, Büttner died as a result of a shot in the head during the First World War in Flanders. During the Second World War, the tower was damaged after a bombardment. They were only repaired in a makeshift manner because suitable building materials were in short supply. It was only between 1979 and 1984 that the parish restored the building shell. By this time, however, penetrating water had already caused significant damage. A painter in the 1960s also covered the painting with a monochrome overcoat. An extensive restoration took place between 2006 and 2012. Donors had the opportunity to symbolically purchase a star on the vault. The partner community in Düren donated an electric drive for the bells.
