Wietzendorfer Beekeeper

Highlight • Monument

The Wietzendorf Beekeeper, which is the official designation as a landmark of the honey community Wietzendorf, stands in the village center at the Friedenseiche, next to the Jacobi church. The bronze statue was designed by Bremen artist Claus Homfeld. It was unveiled on the occasion of the 23rd Honey Festival on September 28, 1996. The costs of DM 70,000 were fully financed by donations. The beekeeper is depicted in his typical work attire – with pipe, hat, and face veil. In his hand, he holds a traditional skep. Two more baskets stand near him; one of them bears a face intended to ward off evil spirits.

Here every hiker on the Heidschnuckenweg has the choice. He takes the refreshing path through the stream or comfortably over the bridge.

Heimatverein Peetshof Wietzendorf

Highlight • Historical Site

The Peetshof is a half-timbered farm from around 1870. Such an impressive testimony to rural culture from centuries past can only rarely be found in its original location. In 1987 the municipality of Wietzendorf bought the farm for museum, cultural, local history and social purposes.

Sandy forest paths, but watch out for the potholes. Blueberry bushes on the left and right. The quiet forest roads are highly recommended, there are very few cars there. The bike path on the B3 is not so recommended and getting lost in a few dead ends -- also not recommended 😉. The forest smells lovely of coniferous wood 🌲🌲🌲
