Lock of Leidschendam

Highlight • Bridge

The Leidschendam Lock is a lock with pointed gates in the Rhine-Schie Canal.
The current lock was built between 1886 and 1888 and is an extension of the Damlaan, until recently the main traffic artery of the village. The drawbridges over the monumental lock are very narrow and until the completion of the Sijtwendetunnel in 2003, car traffic was often hindered by waiting times for the bridges at the lock. The drawbridges were built in 1889. The entire lock complex with both bridges has been on the National Monuments List since 1998.

View of the Rodenburgermolen

Highlight • Monument

This polder mill was fully operational until 1953 and drained the Rodenburgerpolder.
The mill was originally built in 1704 but actually dates back to 1893.
In that year, lightning struck, the mill burned out and it was rebuilt again.

The Rodenburgermolen, popularly called "De Kanaalwegmolen", is inhabited, but it seems that it can be visited by appointment (contrary to what Wikipedia reports).

Since 20 September 2016, the mill has been owned by Molenstichting Leiden en Omstreken and has the status of a national monument.

The Rodenburgermolen is a "groundsailer" from 1893, a polder mill. And just very beautiful 😉
