Gravel Tracks Through Wiltshire Countryside to Old Sarum

Highlight (Segment) • Cycleway

These gravel tracks take you through spellbinding Wiltshire scenery. With fields of wheat, small woodlands, remote little farms and some great views, it really is a fantastic section. While the tracks here are fairly easygoing, there are some sections with big, loose gravel and a few deep ruts and potholes, so take care. When you reach the main road at the end, cross over and join the cycle path to Old Sarum ancient hillfort.

Gravel Road to Stonehenge

Highlight • Monument

Great fun little bit of gravel which means you can also see Stonehenge riding along it. Absolutely fine on road bikes too.

View of Stonehenge

Highlight • Historical Site

Take the small path just over the entrance road to Stonehenge, on the right This leads you right oast the stones and some lovely picture opportunities. It then goes over grass to a double gate beside the A303. You need to cross over the A303 to be able to ride safely up the hill on the pathway and then cross back over at the top to rejoin the gravel. Or simply cycle uo the grass verge as I did but this is a lot more sketchy. A fantastic ride and you are only 10 mins from the end.

View of Stonehenge

Highlight • Historical Site

From this spot, you can see Stonehenge standing proudly in the distance. As soon as I saw it, though, I knew I had to get closer. Keep riding along this track and take the path right and you can get as close to this Neolithic monument as the paying tourists do.
