New Town Hall, Rudolstadt

Highlight • Monument

The New Town Hall on the north side of Rudolstadt's market square received its present form in 1912 with its tower and Renaissance oriel window, while the interior architecture was only renovated in 1992, although it was largely preserved. The now-accessible town hall courtyard serves as an event venue in the summer, while the town administration is located in the town hall and the former Hotel "Zum Löwen".

Heinrich Heine Park Rudolstadt

Highlight • Natural Monument

On the south side of the Saale, on the edge of the old town, there is the Heinrich Heine Park in Rudolstadt. Immediately on the Saale invites a beautiful trees for strolling and lingering. The Thuringian farmhouses in the park give a view of the life of Altforderen. If you cross the Saale over a second pedestrian bridge again, it is only a few minutes walk to the historic center. And over the whole is Schloss Heidecksburg.

Café at the Farmhouses

Highlight • Cafe

These beautiful, ancient houses were saved around 100 years ago by courageous and patriotic people, which required them to be completely demolished from their original location. So, they were rebuilt here, but these magnificent houses were actually built in 1667 and around 1700. They remain true to their original appearance, and the surrounding area has also been lovingly restored, with a cottage garden and a kind of courtyard with stately trees, which attracts guests as a snack café.

Very cozy. Absolutely worth seeing. - It's nice that you can even admire these houses from the inside. The fenced-in complex is a truly special museum (inside and out!)

Thuringian Farmhouses Open-Air Museum

Highlight • Historical Site

The farmhouses that you see here in Rudolstadt are also known as "Thuringian farmhouses" and are considered the oldest open-air museum in Germany.

The houses were built in the 17th and 18th centuries and removed from the surrounding villages in 1914/15 and rebuilt in the city park of Rudolstadt. Thanks to original furniture and everyday objects, the museum shows you very clearly what farm life was like in the Thuringian region. The establishment of the village pharmacy is particularly interesting.

The open-air museum also includes a picturesque courtyard. There is an open-air cinema and a theater in summer.

When was the last time you picked chestnuts? As a child this was absolutely common and there was a chestnut rivalry in the village 😁 Today I can hardly understand that so many chestnuts are left lying around and the children in the village stay away from collecting ... 10ct for every kilo 😀 That was our source of income …
